Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Marcus, a Canadian attorney, works as of counsel at Eiger Law in Taipei in the areas of IP, e-commerce, gaming, data protection, and commercial law as well as regulated industries (gaming/lottery and beverage alcohol). He authored the chapter "Securing Taiwan's Cyberspace: An Overview of the Legal and Regulatory Framework Countering Cybercrime in Taiwan" in the international publication Cybercrime and Security.

Marcus has regularly updated the Taiwan section of the Asia-Pacific section of Computer Law & Security Review since 2007. He is also the Asian representative on the International Bar Association's newly established Online Gaming and Electronic Entertainment Committee and will be speaking on the panel "The Global Gamification of Online Gaming" at the IBA's Annual Conference in Dublin this fall. Dr. Jacky Baltes

Dr. Jacky Baltes is a Full Professor in the department of computer science at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.

Dr. Baltes was born and grew up in Munich, Germany.
He is a three time national champion in speed skating and participated at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic games.

Dr. Baltes received his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Calgary, Canada in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
For his Ph.D., Dr. Baltes developed a learning multi-strategy planning system called DoLittle.

From 1996 to 2002, Dr. Baltes worked as a senior lecturer in the department of computer science at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In 2002, Dr. Baltes moved to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.

Dr. Baltes and his students have participated at international robotics competitions for robotic soccer and urban search and rescue since 1998. His teams won honours in the FIRA HuroCup humanoid robot competition (HuroCup 2002, 2003,and 2004), RoboCup E-League (1st Place 2004), RoboCup humanoid league (2002, 2003), and ICRA DARwIn OP Application Challenge (1st Place 2012).

Dr. Baltes has published over 100 peer reviewed articles and was on the program committee for several international conferences. He is a vice president of the Federation International of Robotic Soccer (FIRA), chair of the International HuroCup competition. He is an executive committee member of the International RoboCup Federation and co-chair of the RoboCup humanoid league competition. He is also a a member of the steering committee of the International Robot Olympiad (IRO).

Dr. Baltes is the founder of White Magic Robotics, a successful start-up company founded in 2006, that develops robotic simulation software. His recent enterprise is Taibotics, a company that develops educational robotic kits.

本文來自iWanted成員Chris Lin. 時間是7月2號的下午一點26分，我正在高鐵往台北的車上，經過這五十四小時的轟炸後，終於有一點片刻的平靜可以好好的來整理這幾天的所學和感想。我想分成三個部份來說明 1：What’s iWanted? 2：About Startup weekend. 3：Suggest. Dear , I bought a House for you. iWanted是這次我參加Startup weekend的團隊，我其實只有一個簡單的想法為出發點，就是不希望看到上面那張圖發生～“讓大家能拿到合適的禮物”，幾乎每個人都有經驗收到的禮物不合適，或是為了送禮而煩惱。在商人的包裝之下，現在的節日越來越多，不只是2月14要過情人節，中國7月7號也是情人節，父親節要送禮、聖誕節要送禮，日本還搞出一個白色情人節3月14號，更不用說生日了。現在每個人facebook上都有二三百個朋友，幾乎每天或每週都有認識的人過生日。 如果我們能簡單的知道親人、好友最近的需求、想買的東西，是不是我們就能真正的在送禮時送到她的心中，而不是每每收到一些用不到的東西，久了又很佔家中的空間，丟或賣掉也不太好。 [...]
